Result: EG Meads 4 – 0 Billingshurst Red

AC secured promotion on Saturday after a convincing win against our nearest rival Billingshurst Red.

In our last home league game of the season the boys once again battled through the difficult weather conditions. Pretty football was never on the agenda, it was all about the result.

With Kie once again winning the toss and choosing to shoot downhill in the first half we began brightly with a succession of attacks mostly leading to decent saves or deflections behind for a corner. We were unlucky not to take the lead when Archie K got his head to a corner from the right but his bullet header went narrowly wide of the target.

We found a keeper in fine form as the Billingshurst number 1 saved his team time and again but we finally managed to take the lead after 20 minutes to ease the nerves. Archie K drove into the box and found Albert who saw his first effort saved but as the ball rebounded back to him luck went our way as it hit his leg and trickled over the line. They all count!

Arran then doubled our lead before half time (I can’t exactly remember how it happened as I was talking to a sub but I’m sure it was a cracker!).

The second half also went to plan despite facing a very strong wind and going uphill. Arran finished off a classy move involving Kie and Archie K as he found the back of the net with a cool chip over the advancing keeper.

There was still time for the goal of the game though as Kian found his new shooting boots and rifled an effort from the edge of the box into the top left hand corner. Not a bad effort from the holding midfielder. It was a well deserved goal after a fine game.

Overall it was another solid performance as we made a decent team look average.
